Our Story
Interview with the founder
Jill Elizabeth Nyznerova
- What inspired you to start a sustainable fashion brand, and what does sustainability mean to you in the context of fashion?
- "At the London College of Fashion, I saw a gap. High-end fashion was glamorous but often didn’t consider the environment. This got me thinking: Why can't style and sustainability go hand in hand? That's how Marcí was born. Our first collection used natural materials like pineapple and wood fibres, showing that fashion can be both stylish and eco-friendly. As we grow, we're keen to explore more, like incorporating banana fibres. For Marcí, fashion isn’t just about looking good; it's about doing good too. It's a personal mission for a better, more stylish world."
- I'm interested in learning about the inspiration behind naming your brand after your mother. Could you elaborate on the special significance it holds for you?
- “Certainly. Naming the brand 'Marcí' was my way of honouring my mother. She was my best friend and an incredible source of inspiration. We were incredibly close, and I lost her to breast cancer. When thinking about what to call my brand, I wanted something meaningful. 'Marcí' was the perfect choice. It's a tribute to her love, strength, and the impact she had on my life."
- Can you share your long-term vision for the future of your sustainable fashion brand?
"Absolutely. The journey of Marcí, while rooted in the present, has always been forward-looking. Our long-term vision is to be at the forefront of sustainable fashion, blending traditional practices with innovative technological solutions.
A pivotal goal on our horizon is forging partnerships with farmers and companies committed to full transparency in the biodegradation process at the end of a garment's lifecycle. This transparency is vital for our consumers to understand the true impact of our choices.
In line with our progressive approach, we're also eager to integrate 3D and virtual features into our brand. This digital evolution will offer a fresh, immersive experience for our customers, bridging the gap between tactile fashion and the virtual realm.”

The foundation of Marcí is deeply rooted in blending style with sustainability, a vision inspired during my time at the London College of Fashion. Our guiding principles are:
Responsibility to Nature: Our focus is on using biodegradable materials in our designs. From pineapple and wood fibres to innovative options like banana fibres, we're constantly exploring eco-friendly choices.
Mindful Design: Each piece we craft seamlessly marries aesthetics with environmental responsibility, representing a harmony between luxury fashion and eco-consciousness.
Longevity and Quality: We champion the idea of lasting fashion. Instead of fleeting trends, we prioritize the longevity and timeless allure of our pieces, offering an antidote to the fast fashion cycle.
End-of-Lifecycle Service: Recognizing the environmental implications of discarded garments, we've introduced a unique service for our clients. At no extra cost, we collect garments at the end of their lifecycle. We then take on the responsibility to disassemble, recycle, and biodegrade them, ensuring our commitment to a circular fashion approach remains intact.
These principles not only define Marcí but also underline our deep-seated commitment to a more stylish and sustainable future.

At Marcí, we curate our materials with intention: Tencel, known for its diversity in colors, weights, and weavings; Pineapple Shantung for its distinct elegance; and Organic Undyed cotton for its pure, natural feel. Each choice, from wood-derived Tencel to earthy cotton, emphasizes sustainability alongside style. For us, it's not merely about fashion—it's about thoughtful choices that resonate with our planet.
